Time for detox: reset and everything at the beginning
Every day, we are exposed to a variety of environmental toxins, pollutants and chemical additives in food as well as stressful living conditions. It is all the more helpful to rid the body of the accumulated pollutants from time to time. But what is the best way to achieve this?

What is detox and what is it for?
The term detox comes from the English “detoxification” - detoxification. The idea behind this is to occasionally rid the body of toxins or “waste products.”
One thing in advance: Our organism detoxifies every day, all by itself! In healthy people, the body cleanses itself and excretes unwanted substances through the respiratory tract, liver, kidneys, intestines and skin. Nowadays, however, our excretory organs are overwhelmed more quickly because we often absorb too many toxins and pollutants. In addition to an unhealthy diet with all kinds of additives, lots of fat and sugar, nicotine, alcohol, environmental pollution and stress are also responsible for this. The result: Complaints such as headache and joint pain, fatigue, digestive problems, listlessness, chronic exhaustion and depression often occur.
Regular detoxification can help you to boost natural detox processes and thus actively promote the elimination of pollutants. When the body is relieved of the stress, it works more efficiently and can concentrate better on cell regeneration. In addition, many detox programs are also aimed at mental clarity, better sleep, and balance. Both the metabolic situation and general well-being should improve as a result.
Detoxify the body sensibly
There are various ways to detoxify the body, from a weekly detox day to a detox treatment lasting several days a year. The focus is always on reducing food intake, sufficient exercise and a sustainable healthy diet.
1. Detox days and “juice fasting”
Detox treatments lasting several days start with two days of relief, on which only fruit, steamed vegetables, rice or jacket potatoes are on the menu, followed by bowel evacuation at the start of fasting. In this way, you first relieve your body and get it in the mood for the fasting regimen, which significantly reduces calorie intake. They then only consume liquids such as water, unsweetened herbal teas, fruit and vegetable juices, and broth. This helps you lose weight, stabilize your blood sugar levels, improve your mood, and have more energy.
2. Relaxation and exercise
As an accompaniment to detoxification lasting several days, baths such as clay bath and therapeutic massages, which support the circulatory and lymphatic systems and ensure relaxation. Sauna sessions, yoga classes and long walks in the fresh air also reduce stress and support the detox effect.
3. Alkaline diet and abstinence from stimulants
In principle, it is important to consistently avoid foods that are difficult to digest and acid-forming. These include meat, dairy products, white flour, sweets, alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine.
The focus of the diet is on eating alkaline foods such as:
- potatoes and legumes, such as chickpeas, beans, lentils, and peas
- leafy salads, cucumbers and herbs
- spinach and chard as well as collard vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli and white cabbage
- fruit, e.g. bananas, grapes, citrus fruits, apples, pineapples, berries
- mushrooms, nuts, and seeds such as chia or flax seeds
- vegetable oils, e.g. extra virgin olive oil or pumpkin seed oil
- ginger and turmeric, for their anti-inflammatory properties
- Still water and unsweetened herbal teas

Fresh fruit and vegetables are also ideal for making smoothies, as they provide the body with sufficient vitamins and minerals.
5. Natural and nutritional supplements
Some detox programs use homeopathic, herbal or dietary supplements to support detoxification, which are intended to “activate” the liver or kidneys. The manufacturers advertise that the so-called detox capsules lead to more energy, strengthen the immune system, reduce weight and generally increase well-being. In addition, there are also products that cleanse, regenerate and moisturize the skin, such as Detox facial treatment with aloe vera.
Living and eating consciously
A detox cure can be a good start to a long-term diet change for people who want to eat healthily and treat their bodies carefully. If you want to do something good for your health in the long term, we recommend
- look at your eating habits and integrate healthy, plant-based and largely unprocessed foods into your diet
- drinking enough water (about 2 to 3 liters per day) to eliminate toxins
- avoid alcohol and tobacco so that the lungs and liver can recover
- incorporating regular exercise and sport into everyday life is recommended at least 75 minutes of intensive sport or 150 minutes of moderate activity per week
- getting enough sleep (6 to 8 hours per day) and maintaining regular sleep cycles, and
- To create moments of relaxation that invigorate body and mind. Walks, yoga, or small “real” breaks from everyday life often work wonders.
Detox with a sustainable approach
The improved physical and mental wellbeing and the regained vitality promote the joy of a healthier lifestyle. Because if you take care of your body regularly and maintain healthy habits over the long term, you will sustainably improve your quality of life. Even though the Longevity-Initiative is still in its infancy, self-care and prevention will always be the basis for a long and healthy life.
Expert advice and personalized assistance
Since fasting treatments can also pose risks (e.g. for pre-existing conditions or chronic illnesses, underweight or permanent nutritional deficiencies), you should seek advice from your doctor before a detox cure and carry out a prolonged detox diet or therapeutic fasting with abstinence from solid food for several days only under medical supervision.
