What is fasting hiking?

Fasting hiking is the combination of therapeutic fasting and daily hikes in nature. The aim is to purify, detoxify and gain new energy for body, mind and soul without having to achieve top sporting performance.

Where does the idea of fasting come from?

Its roots go back to Gandhi and the Swede Dr. Lennart Edrén. In Germany, fasting hiking became known as part of environmental and peace movements through Christoph Michl. Today, it is a recognized method of sustainable health prevention.

How does fasting hiking work on the body?

When fasting, the body changes its metabolism, begins to dehydrate, the blood pressure drops and the circulation stabilizes. Hiking in the fresh air also releases the so-called “happiness hormone” serotonin.

What are the benefits of fasting hiking?

Fasting hiking

· purifies and detoxifies the body

· can reduce stress and promote mental clarity

· strengthens the immune system,

· improves intestinal health,

· helps to reduce excess weight and

· can alleviate physical complaints.

Who is fasting hiking suitable for?

Basically for healthy adults who are physically resilient. It is particularly recommended for people who want to consciously slow down and gain new strength.

Who shouldn't go fasting?

Fasting hiking is not suitable for:

· people with type 1 diabetes,

· pregnant or breast-feeding women, and

· People with bleeding tendency, hyperthyroidism or circulatory disorders in the brain

What forms of fasting are there during fasting hiking?

Buchinger fasting: Avoid solid foods, supplemented with vegetable broth, tea and juices. It is ideal for deep detoxification.
Alkaline fasting: Seasonal fruit and vegetables are allowed. This gentler version is particularly suitable for beginners.

What can you eat during fasting?

Usually unsweetened tea and water. During Buchinger fasting, broth and juices are also allowed in small quantities. Preparation ideally starts a few days in advance with light food such as fruit and vegetables.

How do I prepare for a fasting hike?

· Switch to a light diet 2-3 days in advance,

· avoid caffeine, alcohol and sugar

· stop mentally and physically abstinence and exercise,

· possibly set a personal goal (e.g. more movement, inner clarity, regeneration)

1. Do I need to have fasting experience to participate?

No, fasting hiking in Menschels is also ideal for beginners. Our experienced fasting guide will guide you through all phases — medically supervised, well-structured and in a mindful atmosphere.

2. Is fasting hiking exhausting?

Not excessive. Our hikes are between 8 and 15 km long, are completed at a moderate pace and there are plenty of breaks. It is not about performance, but about well-being. The movement supports the fasting process — gently but effectively.

3. What exactly is Buchinger fasting?

During Buchinger therapeutic fasting, also known as Buchinger fasting, you avoid solid food and consume juices, broths, tea and water instead. This form of therapeutic fasting is considered classic and is used for detoxification and regeneration.

4. What does a typical fasting hiking day look like?

The day usually starts with a light “fasting breakfast.” We then start the hike. At lunchtime, there is a hot vegetable broth. The afternoons are free — time for rest, treatments, swimming or reading. In the evening, you can often expect a short round of reflections or simply relaxed silence.

5. Is fasting better alone or in a group?

Our experience shows that it's easier in a group. Exchange, motivation and the shared experience intensify the fasting period and make it more pleasant at the same time. Yet there is enough room for retreat and privacy. An experienced fasting manager also provides security and structure.

6. What happens if I want to end the week early?

That is of course possible. Even in this situation, our team is there to help you, adjust the cost structure and ensure that you can return to everyday life easily — without health risks.

7. What should I consider before arriving?

Ideally, reduce your consumption of coffee, sugar, and alcohol a few days before you start. A light diet with fruit, vegetables and plenty of water helps your body get started.

8. Can I book treatments or massages while fasting?

Yes, that is actually recommended. Treatments such as foot massages, clay baths or light body treatments support the detoxification process and promote relaxation. They can be booked on site or in advance.

9. What medical care is provided?

Medical consultations and checks take place at the beginning, during and at the end of the week. If you have any questions or concerns, medical assistance is always available.

10. What equipment does Menschels Vitalresort offer?

You will stay in modernly furnished, quiet rooms with views of the countryside. An extensive park, a spa area with swimming pool and sauna, and lovingly designed lounges create an ideal environment for your break.
