Reset for your brain: Powernap

“This power nap acts like a reset button — but only if you do it correctly!” I'm Dr Gudrun Hetzel, and I'll show you how power napping can strengthen your brain.

A power nap is like a reset for body and mind

Who doesn't know that? Midday drags on, the head gets heavy and concentration drops. Instead of reaching for coffee, try taking a short break in the form of a power nap.

A short nap of 10 to 20 minutes can improve your mental performance, calm your nervous system, and even strengthen your immune system. The decisive factor is: If you do it right, your body gets exactly the regeneration it needs — without slipping into deep sleep.

Mental recovery in minutes

Just 10 to 20 minutes of light sleep is enough to measurably increase your concentration, alertness and performance.

Reduce stress through deep relaxation

Short sleep phases have been shown to lower cortisol levels and therefore have the effect of resetting the nervous system.

Improved responsiveness and focus

You react faster, think more clearly and are ready to take on challenging tasks again.

Strengthening the immune system

Regeneration not only means rest, but also repair. Your body uses the time to mobilize immune defenses.

Preventing exhaustion and burnout

Regular micro-breaks prevent chronic overload, particularly during stressful phases.

Mood enhancement and new motivation

Just a few minutes can help cushion emotional lows and make everyday life easier.

The effect of power napping

  • Relaxation for your brain
  • Increased concentration
  • Less stress & better mood
  • Strengthen your immune system
  • Protection against burn-out
  • More energy for the day

Practical tip

Plan your Powernap fittest between 1 pm and 3 pmwhen your biorhythm requires a break anyway. Darken the room, turn off all sources of interference and set an alarm maximum 20 minutes. This will make you wake up refreshed without the “hangover” feeling of sleeping too long.
