Family recipe: Menschels walnut cookies

What would the Advent season be without the smell of freshly baked cookies? At Menschels Vitalresort, baking together is a tradition, and this recipe for walnut cookies has been passed on for generations. The cookies are tender, nutty, buttery and wonderfully crumbly — that's exactly what Advent tastes like.

Walnut cookies

ingredients:

• 250 g ground walnuts
• 3 egg yolks
• 250 grams of butter
• 200 g sugar
• 300 g flour (a little more if necessary, depending on dough consistency)

Preparation:

1. Make dough:
Knead all ingredients in a bowl to make a shortcrust pastry. The dough should be supple but not too sticky.

2. Molding & cooling:
Form the dough into rolls (about 3 cm thick). Cover them with foil so that they don't take on the fridge flavor and refrigerate for at least two hours, preferably overnight.

3. Bake:
Preheat the oven to 160-180°C.
Cut the rolls into slices about 8—10 mm thick and place them on a tray lined with baking paper.
Brush the cookies with whipped egg yolk, which has been extended with a little cream. Place a quarter of a walnut on each cookie and press gently.

4. Complete:
Bake in a preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden yellow. Then carefully remove it from the tray and let it cool down.

A tip from Menschel's kitchen

The walnut cookies stay fresh for several weeks in a well-sealed tin and their aroma becomes even more intense over time. Perfect, then, to enjoy the Advent season with a fragrant supply of sweet moments.

So natural. So delicious. It's that easy.
